Whakatipu Mahia is an ambitious and innovative project focussing on target predator eradication and suppression on Mahia peninsula. It is currently the largest possum eradication project ever attempted on mainland New Zealand.
Rongomaiwahine Iwi Trust, the Whangawehi Catchment Management Group and the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council have partnered to offer a Pest Eradication Team Member role joining the team working on the Whakatipu Mahia Predator Free project. The role will be based in Mahia but as a member of the team, you may be required to work in other areas in the Hawke’s Bay from time to time.
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
• Pest management duties for Whakatipu Mahia
• Bait station filling
• Trapping and shooting of target predators
• Data collection
The successful candidate will need:
• A current full driver’s licence
• To be physically fit
• To be able to work on farms and in a rural environment.
• Flexibility as you may be required to work weekends
This role requires you to work autonomously and as part of a team and maintain a professional standard at all times. This is a full-time fixed term role for 2 years; reporting to Rongomaiwahine Iwi Trust and who is administering the contract on behalf of Whakatipu Mahia. Experience in the field and the ability to drive 4WD, LUV and quad bikes would be an advantage. All training and certification will be provided.
